Dayna Law

Artist Statement

I was born with a strong sense of colour and design, and a keen eye for visual detail.

My earliest memory of painting, was in kindergarten… no inhibitions… primary colours, big brushes! It was so much fun creating art!

And, as happens with children as they grow older, I was praised for achieving likeness and conformity. My formal (architectural) training required straight lines and exactness. For many years, my artwork was predictable and exact, masterful watercolours en plein air.

My artistic outlook has changed over the years and my work has evolved over time. Based on solid technical training, my paintings engage the viewer, evoke mystery, stimulate the senses and make an emotional statement by the bold use of colour, texture and graphic design.

My work is often spontaneous. It is also filled with contemplation and patience. I am stimulated by the colour and texture of the landscape around me, of travel ventures to exotic locals, of the movement and patterns in nature, of the nostalgia of simpler times and the optimism of future adventures.

My thoughts are always tuned to perfecting processes, creating new ideas, experimenting with colour and texture combinations; but most of all continuing to have creative fun!
